The town of Vrede is situated in the North-Eastern Free State about 20km east of the N3, close to the Mpumalanga border. It is a scenic little town with an imposing sandstone church, surrounded by a large farming district. Vrede was so named after a dispute between the the founding fathers about its name was settled amicably (“in peace”). The town was established in 1863 by European landowners of this area.

The Vrede Golf Club is a 9-hole course located on the Volksrust road, Free State, with a bar and restaurant , and function facilities. Directions to Vrede Golf Club, is travel from Johannesburg on the N3 to Villiers. At Villiers (R103) take the road to Warden. Travel for about 64km and turn left to Newcastle and then travel for about 16km to Vrede. Once in the town of Vrede travel in the direction of the Mtunzini Resort, where the golf course is located.

Viljoenskroon town is located next to the R76 Road within the maize triangle, and bordering the Vaal Triangle Industrial Complex. It is characterized by its stud farming in the district and several huge grain silos, making it one of the biggest grain storage centres in South Africa.  Viljoenskroon is named after the original farm owner, JJ Viljoen, and his horse Kroon.

Viljoenskroon Golf Club is a 9-hole course located in Voortrekker street, and it is not open on Mondays. Directions to the Viljoenskroon Golf Club, is take the N1 from Johannesburg to Bloemfontein, and at Parys take the Viljoenskroon Road off-ramp and turn right. Continue for about 56km passing Potchefstroom, until you enter the town of Viljoenskroon. The golf club is located on the left of the main raod, near the Sports Centre.

The Tweespruit Golf Club is a 9-hole course located in Dairy Village, Tweespruit, and the coutrse is open on Mondays. Directions to Tweespruit Golf Club is travel from Johannesburg on the N1 to Bloemfontein, pass Winburg, and take the Verkeerdevlei turn-off, and turn left. Continue for about 80km, and the golf club will be on the right side of the road.

The town of Theunissen is situated in the heartland of South Africa’s agricultural belt, mine shafts now guarding the horizon where once antelope roamed. Attractions in the area include game reserves, tours to gold mines, exploring the countryside from a steam train and the Goldfields Wine Cellar in Theunissen.
 
Theunissen Golf Club is a 9-hole course that is open only on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and is located between Theunissen and Virginia. Directions to Theunissen Golf Club, is take the N1 from Johannesburg to Winburg, then travel for about 32km to Theunissen. As you enter the town of Theunissen, go over a bridge and the golf course will be on the right hand side.

Bloemfontein, or The “City of Roses”, is the Capital City of the Free State Province, and is centrally located roughly in the middle of the Province, as well as in South Africa. The Tempe Golf Club is an 9-hole course with  a driving range and function facilities, located in the Tempe Military grounds, Bloemfontein.

Directions to the Tempe Golf Club, is from Bloemfontein N1, turn left at Nelson Mandela off-ramp, follow signs to Tempe Military ground, go through the gate and the golf course is on the right hand side.
