Marquard was established in 1905 on the farm Varschfontein (Fresh Fountain) after the community tried for years to have their own town, and is named after the Dutch Reformed minister, JJ Marquard. This small village is located on the R707 to Senekal, and between Clocolan and Winburg on the R708.

The Marquard Golf Club is a 9-hole course with a restaurant, and it is located in Andries Pretorius Street. Other activities include several hiking trails, cycling or biking-hiking, bass angling, 4 tennis courts, a swimming pool, jukskei pitch, rugby field and bowling green.

The Steynsburg Golf Club is a 9-hole course located in Venterstad road, Steynsburg, Eastern Cape. The course is open for play every day of the week, and visitors are most welcome.
